Alex Tan is a partner in our Corporate practice. Alex concentrates on mergers and acquisitions, encompassing domestic, regional and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity and corporate restructurings. He also handles a broad range of corporate commercial work and general corporate law work where he provides regulatory and commercial law advice to various companies and multinational corporations across a wide range of industries.
Alex has represented domestic and multinational corporations, private equity funds, investment trusts and property developers in some of Singapore's largest corporate real estate acquisitions; including acting for, CapitaLand's sale in 2015 of the entire unitholding interest of Brilliance Mall Trust, which owns Bedok Mall (S$783.1 million), CapitaLand in its S$91.8 million acquisition of the Big Orange self-storage business; CapitaCommercial Trust in its S$430 million acquisition of FirstOffice, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) which holds "20 Anson Road" in 2012; Commerz Real Investmentgesellschaft mBH in its sale of a 50 percent share interest to an Alpha Investment Partners fund, which owns 78 Shenton Way (S$608 million), in 2012, Mercatus Co-operative in its acquisition of 50 percent share interest of ASPF II Mauritius which in turn owns the shopping mall known as Nex shopping mall from a Pramerica fund for more than S$800 million, in 2012; Overseas Union Enterprise Ltd in its acquisition of Crowne Plaza Changi Airport (acquisition for S$299.5 million), in 2011, which won the HICAP award in Hong Kong, Real Estate Capital Asia Partners II L.P. in its divestment of its entire interest in PSRE Investments Pte Ltd (which holds 16 strata units at 57 Paterson Road) for S$83 million to Blackstone and LaSalle Investment Management in its divestment of (its Mauritius entity) its entire interest in Emerald Land Pte Ltd (which owns 16 strata units at 111 Emerald Hill) for S$75 million.
Alex has also represented various domestic and multinational corporations in their regional and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, including acting for Q&M Dental Group in its first-steps investments in dental clinic groups in Beijing (Aiyashi) and Nanjing (Dan De) in 2010, Boustead Projects Pte Ltd in its divestment of a storage facility company in Tongzhou, PRC (for S$15.3 million), in 2013, and recently in 2015, he acted as Singapore counsel to Valiant Co., Ltd. a subsidiary of the China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP) in its acquisition of a 100 percent interest in US-based MP Biomedicals, LLC for RMB 850 million.
