As the global Covid-19 outbreak continues to affect colleagues and clients around the world, Dentons Rodyk has decided to replace the seminar with a webinar.

This webinar will discuss the latest issues in the Building and Construction Industry: the amendments to the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act (the “SOP Act”) and the impact of COVID-19 on the Building and Construction Industry.

The amendments to the SOP Act seek to:

1. Expand and clarify the scope of the application of the SOP Act,
2. Enhance the handling of payment claims and payment response, and
3. Improve the administration of the adjudication process.

The amendments came into force on 15 December 2019 and will apply to all payment claims served after that date. These amendments are helpful to both employers and contractors alike and the webinar will explore this.

The webinar will then segue into a discussion on the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on the Building and Construction Industry in Singapore. In particular, we will be exploring the concepts of force majeure, frustration, and claims for extension of time and liquidated damages on the three (3) most commonly used forms of construction contracts in Singapore.
