Alwyn is a Senior Associate in Dentons Rodyk’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group.

Alwyn graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2018 and was called to the Singapore Bar in 2019. His practice encompasses a wide range of civil and commercial matters with a particular focus on family and construction law. For a list of his representative experience, please see below.

Alwyn has amassed significant experience acting as lead counsel in various contentious matters in the State Courts, Family Justice Courts, and the High Court. He adopts a sensible, timely, and cost-effective approach when handling cases. At the same time, Alwyn is experienced in alternative dispute resolution (ADR). He frequently represents clients at mediation and has a proven track record in settling disputes through mediation.

In terms of his construction experience, Alwyn has represented real estate developers, main contractors, and subcontractors in various construction disputes, and he is well-versed with the adjudication regime under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act (SOPA). Alwyn has also acted as lead counsel in several applications to stay court proceedings in favour of arbitration and he is knowledgeable in this area of law.

When representing clients in the matrimonial setting, Alwyn is constantly guided by the principle of acting in the best interests of the child. He believes in giving back to the community and actively takes on legal aid cases in his capacity as an Assigned Solicitor of the Legal Aid Bureau and as a Volunteer with the Law Society of Singapore’s Ad Hoc Pro Bono Assessment Scheme, especially when these cases involve the elderly or women in need.

Outside of work, Alwyn enjoys spending time at the gym and at home with his two dogs, Miki and Miko.

Experience

  • VOK v VOL [2020] SGFC 109: Achieved favourable outcome in an ancillary matters hearing involving issues such as dissipation of matrimonial assets, drawing of adverse inference, and inter-spousal loans, and acting as lead counsel in successfully resisting the wife’s appeal before the Family Division of the High Court.
  • VAA v VAB [2019] SGFC 92: Assisted in successfully resisting an application before the Family Court and a subsequent appeal to the Family Division of the High Court for the return of a child to the Netherlands pursuant to the International Child Abduction Act on the ground that the child had been wrongfully removed to Singapore by the child’s father.
  • Confidential clients: Lead counsel in personal protection order (PPO) trials.
  • Co-founder and ex-CEO of a local online grocery and food delivery start-up: Acting in defence of a claim for U$5.1 million by a Korean investment banking and stock brokerage company.
  • Ex-financial controller of a strategic communications and public relations consultancy company: Acting in defence of a High Court claim for breach of fiduciary duties.
  • Fund management company: Acted in defence of a claim for breach of membership agreement in the context of a co-working space.
  • Real estate developer: Advised and represented client in claims against main contractor and defending against an application for proceedings to be stayed in favour of arbitration in the context of the Singapore Institute of Architects’ standard form contract.
  • Various construction companies: Acted as lead counsel in adjudication applications under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act.
  • Confidential client: Lead counsel in successfully obtaining an interim injunction against the sale of a matrimonial property.
  • Construction company: Advised and represented client in claims against various subcontractors including applications for court proceedings to be stayed in favour of arbitration.
  • Confidential client: Acted for a MCST in applications before the Strata Titles Board
  • Employment claim: Successfully acted for a director of a sporting and recreational goods company in recovering unpaid salaries and CPF contributions.
  • Employment claim: Advised and represented the ex-director of an SGX-listed company in his claims for unpaid salaries and directors’ fees.
  • Confidential client: Acted for a client in a matrimonial matter with an asset pool of around S$12 million.
  • Various SGX-listed companies: Advised on corporate governance issues including drafting of SGX announcements and appointment of directors.
  • Other significant matrimonial experience: Acted as lead counsel in various interlocutory applications such as applications for discovery and interrogatories, setting aside of subpoenas, variation of maintenance, drafting of separation deeds and annulment of marriages.
