Dentons is honoured to be appointed by the Government of the Republic of Singapore to develop the model legal documents governing the international trading of carbon credits—an initiative enabled by Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. This engagement marks a significant milestone in global climate law and policy.

Singapore has long been a pioneer in implementing Article 6, recognising its pivotal role in accelerating global decarbonisation. As countries increasingly turn to voluntary cooperation to meet their climate targets, this project will establish the legal architecture necessary to support transparent, accountable, and effective carbon markets.

The winning proposal was led by Senior Partner Jonathan Guwe, who coordinated a cross-border team of Dentons lawyers including Senior Partner Emily Low, Partners Ng Teng Wei and Ho Jean Nie, Senior Associate Joey Tam and Associate Mason Sim from Singapore, Partner Jeffrey Fort from Chicago, Partner Hazel Saffery from Calgary, Partner Helen Bowdren from London, Managing Partner Claire Armstrong from Scotland, Partner Owen McLennan and Associate Sam Smart from Edinburg.

Dentons’ selection followed a highly competitive global tendering process that drew proposals from many of the world’s leading climate-focused law firms. The firm’s successful bid was further strengthened by its collaboration with Pollination LLP, whose specialised expertise in Article 6, nature-based solutions, and voluntary carbon markets made Dentons the partner of choice for this landmark engagement.
